Qualifications and experience

Derek holds a Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling (FdA), a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Counselling (BA Hons), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Supervision (Postgrad Cert). He is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling by Professional Practice (DProf), with an expected completion in 2025. Derek has 17 years of experience in the addiction field. In 2014, he established and ran a quasi-residential addiction service called Steps2Recovery for two years, which won the Centre for Social Justice Award (CSJ) in 2017.

Hobbies and interests

Derek is a dedicated professional, working on his doctoral thesis while providing clinical supervision for CPPD students and experienced counsellors and psychotherapist. He offers individual and couples therapy as well. Outside of his professional commitments, Derek cherishes spending time with his family, including his wife and seven grandchildren. In his leisure time, he enjoys dancing, watching football, and pursuing his new hobby of gardening.
