How to Prepare for Rehab

How to Prepare for Rehab

When you make the decision to enter residential rehab, you might be unsure of what you should do beforehand. Understanding what to bring to rehab and making sure everything will be taken care of when you are away can make your day of admission less stressful.

Knowing how to prepare for rehab might feel daunting — after all, you’re entering an environment that is completely new. What is critical is that you are not worrying about anything on the “outside” during your stay in residential rehab center. A few things you can do to prepare for rehab include:

  • Speaking with work about how your role will be managed
  • Arranging childcare
  • Arranging for your pets to be looked after
  • Cancelling appointments.

What Do You Need to Bring to Rehab?

One query our admissions team often hear is, “what should I bring to rehab?”. The answer will differ depending on what you feel you need to be comfortable in the period you are staying.

Practically, all you will need are sufficient clothes and any particular toiletries you like to use. You don’t need to bring enough to last the full duration of your stay as there will be laundry facilities. All essential toiletries will also be provided at most rehab centres, so you only need to bring any specific products you would like to have with you.

For longer stays, you might like to bring a few extra things with you. This can be whatever you enjoy doing, whether that be extra books to read, notepads, or art materials. If you have not done anything for a while,  think about what you used to enjoy, such as your favourite books or once-loved hobbies.
